Coronavirus Update From CDC February 25

ATLANTA, GA. -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides an audio teleconference update to media on the COVID-19 response by Nancy Messonnier, M.D., Director, National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.

As of Tuesday afternoon (EST) there were 80,407 confirmed cases reported, 97% were in mainland China and 53 cases in the U.S. 977 case were reported in South Korea, 322 in Italy, and 170 in Japan. 691 are from the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan.

More than 780,000,000, or more than one-half the total population are under quarantine or travel restrictions in China, with the strictest measures in Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak. The population of China is 1,428,000,000. Quarantined areas are also now in Italy.

UPDATE: As of Wednesday morning (EST) the totals are 81,191 total, 1261 South Korea, 705 Diamond Princess, and 322 Italy, 2,768 total deaths worldwide.
