Hendry's 2nd Largest Oak Tree Falls
Giant Oak Splits In Night
LABELLE, FL. -- What has been labeled the second largest Oak tree in Hendry County, Florida split in two during the night leaving Springview Circle in Port LaBelle partially blocked.
The giant tree, probably several hundred years old was believed to be the second largest oak in the county as determined by the LaBelle Garden Club several years ago.
The tree had been carefully pruned every few years by an arborist and had also been reinforced with dacron ropes and slings to try to stabilize the weight of the huge limbs.
It's not yet know if any part of the fallen sections can be saved and how significantly the main portion of the giant tree might be damaged.
