Storms with increasing severity and frequency are threatening us the world over. Hurricanes, tornadoes, forest fires, sea level rise, flooding, increasing temperatures and more are impacting people and wildlife. What is anyone doing about it? Join Hendry-Glades Audubon for our January program featuring a presentation by the Seminole Tribe of Florida's Climate Resiliency Officer and Environmental Science Manager as we learn more about the Tribe's efforts to determine their risk due to climate change and mitigate its effects to protect the Tribes human and natural assets."
Jill Horwitz, the Tribe’s Climate Resiliency Officer, will summarize major regional climate change threats and the Tribe’s current efforts to assess risk and develop programs that build greater overall resilience. Karli Eckel, the Tribe’s Environmental Science Manager, will provide an overview of the Tribe’s Northern Crested Caracara, Bald Eagle, and Migratory Bird annual monitoring plan and efforts. The data collected directly supports the Tribal Council’s directive towards natural resource management on the reservations, through the guidance of the Seminole Tribe of Florida Wildlife Conservation Plan (WCP). The Wildlife Program, in addition to many other Tribal programs, is exploring ways to incorporate additional monitoring through the perspective of climate change.
