Tai Chi Students At Ortona
LABELLE, FL. -- The Ortona Community Center offered free Tai Chi classes this month led by Mary Bartoshuk, a certified trainer of Tai Ji Quan - Moving For Better Balance.
The exercise classes were developed by the Oregon Research Institute's Dr. Fuzhong Li to develop better balance and strength in older adults and the program has been recommended by the Center For Disease Prevention as a way to prevent falls.
The CDC says one in three adults aged 65 or older will fall each year, and one-third of those will suffer serious injuries. Participating in exercise classes like Tai Chi has been shown to prevent falling in older adults.
The Tai Ji Quan program has been offered at the L.J. Nobles Senior Center in LaBelle for the last two years with five different classes having been held there.
