Family and friends are celebrating the life of Walter Robert Howard, Sr. who passed on June 14, 2014.
Walter was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fellowship with family and friends. The family has fond memories of, and will continue to tribute him through, backyard barbeques along the river, hunting in Keri, and summers on Lake June.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Annie Ruth Parker Howard; siblings Christine Pratt (Don), Merton Howard, Lenora Knowles (Richard), and Orvell Howard (Checira); children Judy Stockman (Dave), Bob Howard (Carol), and Kim Dykes (Mike); 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by numerous members of the Florida Pioneer Howard Family. He was a graduate of LaBelle High School and the University of Florida (Agricultural Engineering). He served in the US Navy during World War II. He had a 45+ year career with Alico, Inc in LaBelle, FL.
He was a dedicated member of numerous organizations, servant to his community, and member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of LaBelle.
Planned services include visitation Monday June 16 6-8 pm at Akin-Davis Funeral Home in LaBelle, funeral Tuesday June 17 2 pm at First Baptist Church of LaBelle, and burial June 18 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnel, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests Walter be honored by contributions to the Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranches, Inc.
