Training Classes For How To Help During Emergencies

Learn How You Can Help Your Community During Emergencies
LABELLE, FL. -- Do you want to learn about the free 20 hour training available to volunteers in our community who would like to learn how to respond to emergencies in your neighborhood, workplace, or community? Nancy Tanner, Training and Exercise Officer for Hendry County Emergency Management, will answer questions and explain how you can participate in CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training during a 1 hour presentation on Tuesday July 15th at 7 p.m. at the Carlson Memorial United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall located at 310 Campbell Street, LaBelle. The CERT training dates will be set by the participants in this workshop.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
