Man Falls From Bridge After Crash

Serious Injury After Man Falls From Caloosahatchee River Bridge

FORT MYERS, FL. --  Ismael Ramos Vargas, 50 of Spring Hill, Florida was traveling in the southbound outside lane on I-75 in a Peterbuilt truck crossing the Caloosahatchee Bridge approaching State Road 80 and collided with a vehicle in front of him Monday morning about 7:39 A.M.

Fernando Ochoa-Silva, 32 of Lehigh Acres, Florida driver of a 2000 Ford F-350 truck had minor injuries after being struck from behind. Both vehicles came to final rest within the outside lane of I-75 blocking the southbound lane for approximately and hour and a half this morning.

After the crash, passenger Francisco Silva, 38 of Cape Coral, Florida, attempted to exit the Ford truck, and in doing so fell off the bridge into the water below.

Construction workers working below the bridge assisted with retrieving Sanchez from the water. EMS transported him to Lee Memorial Hospital. He had serious injuries.

Vargas was charged in the crash.
