Sugar Festival March 17-18

CLEWISTON, FL. -- America’s sweetest town will host the annual Clewiston Sugar Festival on March 18, a free event with family-friendly activities and performances by Trace Adkins, Tracy Lawrence and other country music stars.

The festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at Civic Park on U.S. Hwy 27 in Clewiston. Admission is free. But, kicking off the festival will be a performance by Nuthin’ Fancy, a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band, on the main stage at 8 p.m. Friday, March 17.

Now in its 31th year, the Clewiston Sugar Festival celebrates the region’s annual sugarcane harvest and the important economic impact sugar has on Glades communities and Florida’s agricultural industry. This year’s presenting sponsor is U.S. Sugar, a Florida pioneer in the sustainable farming and processing of sugarcane, citrus and sweet corn.

“It’s a huge pleasure and honor to once again be part of this beloved community event,’’ said Judy Sanchez, senior director of corporate communication and public affairs for U.S. Sugar. “We look forward to celebrating with the entire community the hard work of our employees, growers and vendors who make the sugarcane harvest season a success.”

The event will include a Sweet Taste of Sugar baking contest, food vendors, arts and craft booths, tractor displays and a car show. On the main stage will be country performers Trace Adkins (5:30 p.m.), Tracy Lawrence (3:45 p.m.), Parmalee (2 p.m.), Runaway June (12:45 p.m.) and JJ McCoy (11:30 a.m.).

The festival will feature appearances by Miss Sugar 2017 Brooke Jarvis, Junior Miss Sugar Jaslyn Creagh and Little Miss Sugar Kailynn Davis. Also on the schedule are a Sugar Festival 5K Run/Walk presented by Cross Training Ministries and pickle ball, horseshoe and cornhole tournaments. FPL is sponsoring a Kids Park with bounce houses, inflatable slides and other activities.

  1. Hi I'm Tim Camden USAPA Pickleball Ambassador for Hendry county. I look forward to meeting everyone who stops by the Pickleball courts and ask What is Pickleball. The Round Robin tournament that we are having will give you a good idea as to what it is and how it's played. Tournament starts at 10. Hope to see you there.
