COVID Vaccine Information For Appointments In Hendry And Glades County, Fl

LABELLE, FL. -- The Hendry/Glades Health Department at present has no more vaccines and will not accept appointments until vaccines arrive and the department makes an official announcement.

The Florida Department of Health in Hendry and Glades Counties currently does not know in advance when they will receive Covid-19 Vaccines. Notification to the community about making appointments will be sent out as soon as vaccine quantities and available staff are confirmed.

The health departments in Hendry and Glades counties had previously been taking names for a “standby/will-call” list for future appointments, however that list has reached its max capacity and they can no longer do that.

The Health Department wants to emphasize that COVID-19 vaccination appointments cannot be made by email, you must call to make the appointment, but only once an announcement is made that they have received vaccine. (When later making a call press "00" after dialing the number to get to a scheduling person.)

The department says clerks do receive calls, but because of the volume of calls, not everyone can get through so please be patient as there have been phone issues intermittently due to the continuous volume of calls. Technicians have been working daily on the issues.

If you cannot get through on the telephone, you may stop by the health department in person in Hendry & Glades Counties. (Only after we send out the announcement). Once appointments are filled,  future appointments cannot be booked.

The health departments can only provide vaccine to those who meet the criteria within the Governor’s Executive order. (Over the age of 65, Frontline Healthcare workers <with proper ID> and those in long-term care facilities). It is unknown when the priority groups will change by order of the Governor and State officials.

Second Doses

When an individual receives the vaccine, they will be given a vaccine card with information. Appointments for the second dose are not being scheduled in advance. The health departments will not call individuals to schedule the second dose.

Individuals will need to contact the health department approximately one week prior to their second dose to schedule the appointment. (The vaccine card will give you the target date for your second dose).

Any county health department or provider that has the same type of vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) can administer the second dose. You do not have to return back to the health department or provider where you received your first vaccine.

While You Are Waiting, And After Getting The Vaccine

Please continue to take precautionary measures to keep you and your family safe. (Cover your face while in public, continue to follow social distancing guidelines, avoid unnecessary travel, stay home if you are sick).

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says building immunity "typically takes a few weeks."

"That means it's possible a person could be infected with the virus that causes Covid-19 just before or just after vaccination and still get sick," the CDC says..

"The vaccine will protect you from getting ill and then ending up hospitalized. But it's possible that you could still carry the virus and be contagious to others. So those who get the vaccine should still be wearing masks and practicing physical distancing."
