19-Year Old Woman - Death In Alva Crash

Homicide Investigation Underway In Crash

A 19-year old female passenger in a vehicle traveling on State Road 31 Tuesday in Lee county died of injuries Thursday afternoon at Lee Memorial Hospital.

On August 23, 2011, Cody Lee Yancy, 19 of Alva was traveling south on SR-31 in the southbound lane, just south of North River Road, in Lee County, Florida.  Robin Carlette Gray, 40 of North Fort Myers was traveling north on SR-31 in the northbound lane, just south of North River Road. 

Yancy suffered a  medical emergency while operating his 1998 Chevy truck and traveled over the center lane divider and entered into on-coming traffic. Gray took evasive action, by steering to the right, in an attempt to avoid the collision. The front of the truck collided with the front of Gray's 2000 Ford one-tone truck.

Both vehicles came to rest at the point of impact.  

All occupants suffered incapacitating injuries and were transported to an area hospital.     
     
On August 25, 2011, at 4:15 p.m., Yancy's passenger, 19-year old Katherine Hatch, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased at Lee Memorial Hospital.  A traffic homicide 
investigation is pending.
