75 Year Old Cart Driver Airlifted To Hospital

Muse Crash In Darkness Seriously Injures LaBelle Man

LABELLE, FL. -- A 75-year old man in a golf cart crashed into an SUV in Muse Monday night, seriously injuring the elderly driver.

In what the Florida Highway Patrol investigation says was an alcohol related crash, Lynwood Ellis Brown, 75 of LaBelle, drove a Workhorse ST350 cart into the path of a 2001 Dodge Durango SUV, during the darkness Monday night about 7:30 P.M.

Brown was traveling westbound in the westbound lane of CR-720 (Loblolly Bay Road) in the rural community of Muse, northwest of LaBelle, as the Durango driving by Lorenzo Reyes Rogriguez, 58 of LaBelle, was traveling eastbound in the eastbound lane of CR-720 (Loblolly Bay Road).

Both drivers were approaching the intersection of CR-720 & Tom Coker Road. Brown then made a left turn from CR-720 to enter Tom Coker Road and failed to yield the right of way to the SUV. The front of the SUV then struck the right side of the cart
Brown was ejected in a southeasterly direction landing on the south grass shoulder of CR-720. Both vehicles were found at final rest
in the south grass shoulder of CR-720 east of Tom Coker Road.

Brown was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital due to the severity injuries.

Update:   Brown was treated at Lee Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased on 12/19/11 at 3:41 am
