Hendry-Glades Obituaries

Hiram Ballard, age 90, of LaBelle, passed away Dec. 21, 2011 in LaBelle. He was born Dec. 17, 1921 in Muse, the son the late Fait and the late Zora (Browning) Ballard.

Hiram was a lifelong resident of LaBelle. He was a member of Church of God-LaBelle and taught Sunday School for fifty years. He served in the Army.

Survivors include his wife: Beatrice(Green) Ballard, children: Joanne (Joseph Martin) Thomas, Jeanette (Dale) Small and Sam (Cyndi) Ballard, all of LaBelle, brother: Robert "Dewey" Ballard, sisters: Jackie Young, Gail Sanchez and Delores Gibson, grandchildren: Tina Limberger, Teri Marroquin, Steven Williams, Stephanie Stratton, Nerissa Williams and Bart Ballard, nine great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held, Sat, Dec. 24, 2011, 10:00 am at Church Of God-LaBelle with Rev. Cliff Gobble officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Denaud Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Akin-Davis Funeral Home in LaBelle.

David J. McGarvie, age 73, of Moore Haven passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at home in Moore Haven. Dave was born July 23, 1938 in Lake Geneva, WI. He is the son of the late Floyd and the late Pauline (Miller) McGarvie.

Dave was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber in Albany, GA for many years and then went to work for Proctor and Gamble in Albany where he retired in August 2000.

Dave was an avid fisherman, active member of the Lakeport Garden Club and all around good fellow.

He is survived by his wife: Barbara(Wilson) McGarvie ; two daughters: Dayna Rose, Dea Ingram (Dale) and one son: Derrick McCalvin; grandson, Kyle Howell and several brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by grandson Joshua Bowles.
