Charles started his career in law enforcement as an Officer with the City of Pahokee Police Dept. where he worked until he enlisted in the US Army. He served in Korea and was a recipient of The Purple Heart. He was a Patrolman from 1953 until 1983 with the Florida Highway Patrol.
Charles was named LaBelle Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, 1978 and Grand Marshall of the Swamp Cabbage Festival, 2011. He enjoyed volunteering with the schools and is honored at LaBelle High School with the Volunteer of the Year award named for him and his wife, The Charles & Martha Raye Humphries Volunteer of the Year.
He loved church and was an active member of First Baptist Church of LaBelle.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years: Martha Raye (Thompson) Humphries and daughters: Cindy (Gary) Crittenden and Heidi (Phil) Lederer, all of LaBelle, grandchildren: Nathan Willis and Chloe Lederer and nephew, Kevin Tucker of LaBelle.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of LaBelle with Rev. Frank Deerey Jr. officiating. Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Akin-Davis Funeral Home in LaBelle. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Relay for Life or First Baptist Church of LaBelle Building Fund. Theodore Wayne Pryor, age 51, of LaBelle passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in Lehigh Acres, FL. Theodore was born October 2, 1960 in Dane County, WI. He is the son of the late Theodore Randall and the late Elizabeth (Vaclav) Pryor.
He is survived by his one son: Bradley Pryor; one sister: Debbie Fonseca; one brother: Robert R. Pryor (Molly); and grandchildren: Bradley Pryor, Jr., Hailey Pryor and Alexis Troia.
The funeral service was held 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 4 at Akin-Davis Funeral Home, 560 E. Hickpochee Ave., LaBelle, FL with Dr. Pat Lucey officiating. Interment will be in Lee Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Myers.
Calling hours were Saturday, December 3 from 4-8 p.m. at Akin-Davis Funeral Home, LaBelle, FL.
