17 Injured In Glades Church Bus Crash

17 Sent To Three Area Hospitals After Church Bus Overturns

MOORE HAVEN, FL. -- Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a single vehicle church bus crash on SR 27 and Lykes Road in Glades County.

Theodore Franklin Neal, 49 of Homestead, Fl. was driving a 2002 International passenger bus at 12:38 p.m. Saturday, traveling south on US 27 in the outside lane.  The bus was approaching slower moving traffic in the outside lane, and the driver then changed lanes to the inside lane, but this was just as the roadway began a right hand curve.

The bus then ran partially off the roadway on the left side at the beginning of the curve.  The driver then steered right and attempted to re-enter the inside lane, but lost control and traveled across the southbound inside and outside lanes while rotating counter-clockwise, ran off the roadway on the right side, and overturned onto its roof.

The bus was enroute to Florida City.

· 10 passengers were transported to Lake Placid Hospital with minor injuries
· 6 passengers and the bus driver were transported to Hendry Regional Hospital with minor injuries
· 1 passenger was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with a serious non-life threatening injury

Serious injuries were reported for Bessie Mae Smith, 67 of Florida City.
