Visit A Forest Day

Forest Awareness Days In Hendry And Collier County
LABELLE, FL. -- The Caloosahatchee Forestry Center staff invite residents to visit our state forests this month for the annual Forest Awareness Month celebration.

Picayune Strand State Forest’s event will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and the Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest’s event will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Planned activities at each event include:

· Guided tours - learn about the forest and the plants and animals that call it home

· Demonstrations – see the tools used by foresters and forest rangers to manage the forest, conduct prescribed fires, and protect the forest from wildfires

· Butterfly garden planting – help us establish a butterfly garden using native plants

In addition to the activities listed above, visitors are encouraged to explore the forests by foot, bicycle or on horseback. Maps and informational brochures will be available. Day use and overnight camping fees will be waived so attendees can enjoy the events and forests for free.

Picayune Strand State Forest’s field office is located at 2121 52nd Avenue SE in Naples. Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest’s office is located at 6265 County Road 832, Felda. For more information, please call 690-3500.
