Oranges Spill As Driver Falls Asleep And Semi Overturns

LABELLE, FL. -- A semi tractor-trailer hauling oranges overturned as it was traveling north on State Road 29 in Hendry County south of LaBelle. It waas approaching Sam Lane when the driver fell asleep about 10:47 p.m. Wednesday night.

Driver Terry A. Moore, 42 of Arcadia, Fl. told FHP Trooper S. Rongish he fell asleep, causing the 1999 Mack semi to travel onto the east shoulder which continued to travel north in a ditch causing the front portion to strike a culvert. 

After striking the culvert he continued to travel north striking a utility pole, then overturned coming to final rest on the east shoulder facing north on its left side.

The vehicle traveled approximately 504 feet on the shoulder prior to coming to final rest.

Moore was wearing a seal belt and suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers. He was charged by the FHP with careless driving.

    ATP (trucking company)was just notified about laws that this driver was breaking. The owner of the company showed no concern and hung the phone up. They were notified again and the next day this happened. Lets be thankful this driver did not kill anyone.
