There are two Italian crew members on the ISS. The Pope scheduled his call to the space shuttle Endeavor STS-134 and the ISS at 7:11 a.m. EDT.

The Pope offered his best wishes and asked the crew of their observations about how science could come to the "aid of peace." The crew thanked His Holiness for his words and wished him good luck for the works that he is doing on Earth.

The historic communication between the ISS and the Vatican ended at 7:30 a.m.

Today ironically, is also Judgment Day or the day that is predicted as the day of the Rapture when 200 million people, or about 3% of the population on Earth were to be saved from destruction. The remainder of the billions of people on the planet will simply go into a state of unconsciousness. according to followers of Family Radio broadcaster Harold Camping.

The time set for the Rapture is said to be 6 p.m.

On October 21st 2011, Camping claims the Earth and universe will be destroyed.
