Reaves worked in CC Camps in Highlands County before he served in the Army during WWII. After the war, he worked for Lykes Bros and then the Atlantic Coast Railways for a time. He worked for many years as a Bridge Inspector for the Florida Department of Transportation.
Reaves was instrumental in founding Palmdale Baptist Church and also served as a Deacon.
Survivors include his wife: Ona (Arnold) Hendry, son: Ray (Denise) Hendry of Palmdale, daughter: Diane (Ronnie) Carlton of Zolfo Springs, brother: Olsie (Audrey) Hendry of Lehigh Acres, sisters: Mollie Lanier of Palmdale, Loraine Shewmaker of TX, grandchildren: Will Hendry, Charles Hendry, Amanda Willis, Samantha Hendry, J.R. Hendry and Guy Carlton; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 8, 2012, 11:00 am at Palmdale Baptist Church, Palmdale with Brother Paul Dixon officiating. Interment followed in Ortona Cemetery, Moore Haven. Visitation was held an hour prior to service at Palmdale Baptist Church.
