Police SUV Spins-Crashes On Wet Road

Clewiston Police Durango Loses Control On Wet Pavement

LABELLE, FL. -- A Saturday evening crash on State Road 80 at Lexington Parkway in mid-Hendry county left three people with minor injuries and all in the hospital.

A 2002 Ford F-150 was traveling west on SR-80 just east of Lexington Pkwy about 5:31 p.m. while a 2007 Dodge Durango Clewiston Police vehicle was traveling east on State Road 80 just east of Lexington Pkwy, approaching the truck.

The Durango driven by 25-year old Joseph Wynne Hicks of Fort Myers drove through standing water that was on the roadway and lost control spinning counter clockwise into the westbound lanes. The driver of the truck, 22-year old Danielle Routen of Cape Coral braked and steered to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision but to no success.

Consequently the front portion of the truck collided with the rear portion of the patrol SUV.

The final resting place of the truck was on the westbound lane and the northbound shoulder against the guardrail facing northwest. The final rest of the SUV was in the westbound lane and northbound shoulder facing southeast.

An unknown passenger in the truck was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries with the driver who also had minor injuries. Hicks was taken to Hendry Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
